Trademark registration in Uzbekistan is carried out through the Intellectual Property Agency under the Ministry of Justice. The procedure includes several stages: preliminary search of the registered marks database, application preparation, formal examination and substantive examination. Registration takes 6 to 12 months.
The first and most important step is conducting a preliminary search. This ensures that the chosen mark does not coincide with or is not confusingly similar to already registered designations. Neglecting this step is the most common applicant mistake.
The registration application must contain: the trademark image, a list of goods and services according to the International Classification (Nice Classification), applicant details and a duty payment document. After receiving the certificate, the trademark is valid for 10 years with unlimited renewal.
If you are outside Uzbekistan but need someone to act on your behalf there — for a property deal, court proceedings, or official paperwork — you have two recognised options: a consular power of attorney or a locally notarised document bearing an apostille. As a practising notary in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent, I explain both routes and what you need to prepare.
If you have granted a power of attorney but circumstances have changed, you are entitled to revoke it at any time. Alisher Botirov, a notary in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent, explains how to revoke a power of attorney correctly under Uzbek law, what documents you will need, and what to watch out for.
